Phil Barrow/ Guitar

Guitarist Phil Barrow is a promising young musician and guitar tutor in the Greater Vancouver area. Born in Chiang-Rai, Thailand, Phil immigrated to the city of Vancouver with his family while he was still a child. He first picked up the guitar at the age of twelve, and has never looked back since.

Being primarily a self-taught musician, Phil had not received any formal training on the guitar until after finishing high school, when he began to study with a private instructor, who not only fueled his passion, but inspired him to pursue a career in the musical world. In 2009 Phil enrolled in the Vancouver Community College School of Music in the Jazz and Contemporary Guitar program to further advance his musical aspirations. He has been privileged to have studied under such renowned Vancouver musicians as Daryl Janke, Tony Koch, Laurence Mollerup, David Branter and Paula Kremer.

In 2011, Phil graduated from the VCC School of Music with a Diploma of Arts in the Contemporary Instrumental Music Program. During that time, he was honoured to receive the VCC School of Music Entrance Scholarship in 2009 and the CHQM Scholarship in 2010, sponsored by Vancouver’s own 103.5 QM/FM radio station.

Phil currently provides private guitar lessons to over 40 students of all ages in the Greater Vancouver area. He employs a modern approach to learning to play the guitar and places a strong emphasis on making the learning process fun and engaging. His stylistic diversity has allowed him to effectively tailor and customize lessons plans that suit each individual student’s guitar-related goals, whether it is to learn to play pop, rock, metal, jazz, blues, or classical styles.
